Scrolling through Instagram, getting lost for hours, can be an experience of conscious nothingness. It’s what sleep could be, if we could sleep. If we didn’t have to pass through a painful awareness, then delay phase.

Sometimes we collapse immediately into sleep from TikTok. Those feels like the days our body got what it wanted. A nothingness. It’s the desire to not exist. Not to be happy—that is different. Merely to not exist. https://t.co/FSb2c3YNmD

The happiness that can only be found when awareness is all but collapsed to the moment, to the joke in front of us. From within that limited perspective can there be a fullness of happiness, a release of worry, much like the child’s. https://t.co/TkLBYRV8at

Am I actually happier now than when I was as a child? https://t.co/MAQAUY18Bj

From outside, there is merely the desire to not exist. TikTok and Instagram offer that conscious nothingness. To not feel our bodies. To not feel our minds eggshelling us with its shoulds.

That nothingness creates the little experience of arising again, in the little moment, of the joke or the post, there is an ease again, a good-naturedness. A fragile one for it might collapse again should awareness expand, but sometimes it is enough, to allow us to rest.

What is it that is resting when we go into conscious nothingness? The strain of being conscious, of being alive and managing. Its own kind of strain.

To be well-adjusted is to feel a local sense of agency that is sufficient and appropriate for the situation. When the body bombards with its needs, and the mind with its shoulds, it can feel pointless; a system out of whack. https://t.co/N5qKnDIEkf

It is not that we cannot tolerate great suffering; it is how much we can tolerate is dependent on the sense of agency and meaning we feel. To dissolve into emptiness when nothing feels worth doing, or all feels overwhelming, allows a more useful sense of agency to arrive. https://t.co/49y8Vct3ED

It’s a dissolving and coming back from emptiness. https://t.co/XDmLIsCLAP
