more editing thoughts: so each chapter is about some topic, there's typically some problem, a story about the problem, what people struggle with, and what to do about it interesting thing about the todos is that almost all of them cleave quite neatly into tactics and framing

when working on my chapters on coping mechanisms, I revisited Allen Carr's Easyway (the last time I read it I stopped smoking for like 6 months). And it was striking to me how much of the book is really about reframing โ RECONCEPTUALIZING โ your relationship to cigarettes

the amazing thing about Easyway is they tell you that you should keep smoking until you really feel ready to quit. they insist! you should smoke while reading the book, even. only quit when you no longer desire to smoke. and they achieve that via reframing, reconceptualizing

I could do a thread just observing about how good Easyway is. The book has a great sense of humor โ , (critical to changing minds and reframing). It addresses all of the objections anyone could have very thoroughly โ . it articulates before โ after states very well โ

nerding out at 340am at how fucking powerful a book can be, ideas can be, even tweets can be. i'm taking longer with book than I'd like because I'm still in the process of developing the bookcrafting skill (which is distinct from tweeting), but hot damn, the things you can do...

it's insane. i wanna be like, is everyone seeing this?? and then I realize, oh wait, I've been on a very idiosyncratic path, most people are busy with jobs and life etc, and I'm this weird nerd on this 20 year journey who's weirdly positioned to do what I do

I don't know if introspect v1.0 will be as good as it deserves to be, I'll probably need a lot of feedback, and it'll have all sorts of gaps etc that are missing but when I integrate THAT, introspect v1.1 is going to be the greatest thing I've done in my life trying to be chill

At a meta level I am still playing this game. I would like to be a successful writer by my own constantly-evolving definition of success. Iโd to eventually make a living doing this. I am willing to persist at this for 80 more years if I can. And if I fail, at least I tried, man!

@visakanv I have a working theory: if you identify the essential parts of the artifacts you want to create (books, essays, etc.), you'll start finding them in new and surprising places. The challenge is threading those parts back together in a way that's fresh, interesting, and useful.

@visakanv It also helps if you select interesting types of knowledge blocks to build with (memes and frames, for example). One of my favorite is concept handles: https://t.co/RY1FqRwsjd
