some of the replies and QTs of my recent ambition thread give me the sense that some people actually don't believe I could possibly be serious when I say that you don't have to be ambitious I'll say it: maladjusted, dysfunctional ambition is a source of tremendous suffering https://t.co/4h37ynSDFM

but honestly,,, you don't need to like make a whole thing about it if you take care of yourself, if you're happy, healthy, well-adjusted, independent, take care of your own problems, regulate your own emotions, manage your own psychology, you're already doing everyone a favor

there's a reason I titled my book (1) FRIENDLY (2) AMBITIOUS (3) NERD love (esp respect for the autonomy &sovereignty of others) and genuine open-ended curiosity are critical variables to keep ambition from becoming tyranny I've thought about this a lot! https://t.co/NIKhGuzBA7

I would say that of the 3 variables, ambition is actually the weakest of my impulses. I am first and foremost a nerd driven by curiosity. second, I am a friend to nerds everywhere. my personal ambition is primarily about creating contexts where more friendly nerds can flourish

note that the first domino is "love + curiosity", and not "love + curiosity + ambition". the ambition is in daring to dream big, and follow through. but it's love and curiosity that are what really matter to me. ambition is a servant not a master https://t.co/QCM7vrkuBW
