In a very “A necessary and complete way to have nice things is to have the will to have nice things” anecdote from Tokyo: I took the kids to a park today. It is dinosaur themed. There is construction happening next door of a 10 story building. 1/2

There is, of course, a safety fence between the park and the construction zone. Said fence has a temporary white plastic wall in front of it, partially to decrease construction noise reaching the park. (Wall includes a decibel meter for both sides.)

So picture this: you’re a little kid climbing a stegosaurus statue and it is dwarfed by a featureless white plastic wall. The construction company pictured that. And painted an 8x10 foot dinosaur themed mural on the temporary wall. That’s the entire story.

I really want to know who said, at what point “Wait, hold on. Paint a dinosaur. Right here.” Was it at planning? Did a foreman get to the site then realize it was next to a playground? Did someone propose it as a lark? I don’t know. But something *went right.*
