I think this is what happened to the guy who quit his job to find and meet Logan Paul to ask for a job, but had no answer to “ok but so what can you do” he was under the impression that the universe would reward him for his dramatic gesture and he didn’t think beyond that https://t.co/TUDXQIf8Rw

I wonder if this is some sort of narrative poisoning, where people watch movies and hear stories where the hero wins because he has the biggest heart, and and he wants it the mostest, and so the universe will rearrange itself for him because, gosh darnit, he's a really good guy

the single most important thing you can do to get good at getting what you want from other people is to figure out what *they* want first, and offer it to them then you can negotiate as equals

Some people might call this EQ or whatever but I’ll reinvent it why not: there’s something like a “theory of mind score” that you can infer from people’s utterances (including on Twitter!), and I think it’s a very reliable marker of future success

it’s not the only variable that matters; you also need courage, and you need to not be in debilitating pain/poverty/suffering but broadly, the better a person’s TOMS, the more doors seem to magically open for them
