2 things the rock does to manage his psychology: 1. remember what it was like when he started with nothing 2. ask himself “how bad of a motherfucker do you think you are” there’s some interesting nuance here too if you know what to look for https://t.co/RyqjuhTovk

the nuance is this, he’s very easily able to articulate the doubts and frustrations that he might have, that people typically have. being able to precisely articulate the thoughts that arise is the first step to being able to to step around them like a kungfu master https://t.co/N44oPPYN7V

One of the biggest tells that someone doesn’t know what they’re talking about: glossing over addressing resource constraints, or saying things that imply infinite resources. Effectively everything is resource-constrained, & seasoned practitioners are especially sensitive to this https://t.co/DZi8XbYQqx

it’s also interesting that he talks about how it feels or seems crazy to talk to yourself – he didn’t specify, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he does this literally and out loud in a way that would *seem* identical to someone who might be suffering from mental illness https://t.co/itNmeKBAxC

Here’s an example of someone talking to themselves, that some people think is unhinged, but I think is a demonstration of skilful self-therapy. This is ~basically~ what people go to therapy to do with the guidance of a professional (reread previous Campbell quote again!) https://t.co/JoMG50cw6V

the real measure to care about IMO is not actually what weird shit the person does in their practice (assuming it’s not hurting anybody else), but how they conduct themselves in their lives outside of that practice, how they treat other people, how they make decisions and so on

where it does get kinda funny and tricky is that sometimes a subset of people will be hurt by simply seeing/witnessing you living your best life… so it’s not an absolute thing but more of like a bell curve thing. No substitute for judgement, no rules apply universally
