"mere" perception - one of the weirdest implicit beliefs floating around is that psychology is somehow separate from biology. mind-body dualism runs deep https://t.co/pm8QlAtndq

you have to be really science-cucked to reflexively speak as if *perceptions* are less real than *hormones*. have you ever seen a hormone? touched one? tasted one? how do you know they exist?

this is important shit and i'm gonna keep being mad about it. the undermining of direct perception is one of the biggest tools of social control. it is the meta-gaslighting that enables other forms of gaslighting. it's one of the worst parts of the "i fucking love science" meme

where the flip side of "i fucking love science" is "i fucking hate anecdotes" - your observations, your perceptions, your experiences, don't count because they're N=1. this is bullshit and you don't have to put up with it. science is not more real than your life

i'm still mad at the people who read about @sashachapin curing his anosmia with acid and were like "well he's probably wrong about his own experience" - jesus fucking christ are you that afraid of pissing off Daddy Science and believing something he didn't give you permission to

@QiaochuYuan @sashachapin Funnily, Daddy Science actually does give you permission to believe that very thing, but most people making that criticism are not up to date with Daddy.

@QiaochuYuan @sashachapin They're that afraid of a disintermediated experience of reality, and the horrifying thought that they could/should have been having that the whole time. So reject those who do or try as deluded.

@QiaochuYuan @sashachapin The disability crowd have a cool saying - when doctor says “don’t think you can substitute one Google search for my 10years of medical training” to which they reply “don’t think you can substitute my 10 years of living with this condition for your half hour class in med school”

@QiaochuYuan @sashachapin IME the need to be “objectively right” is really load bearing, I’d say I was terrified of being wrong most of my life, still kinda am https://t.co/Uq8litERse

Being right is also cope for meaningless. Being right is also cope for lack of self confidence/trust. Being right is also a strategy for belonging https://t.co/80HBNv7AYy

@QiaochuYuan I suspect you will like @BernardoKastrup 's work. His articulation of analytical idealism and his sharp dismantling of mainstream physicalism will give many people intellectual permission to recognize this.
