I wrote an essay about an extremely interesting theory of the obesity epidemic that I came across. Read a history of fad diets, how croissants can help you lose weight, and details about squirrel hibernation and mania you never knew you needed to know: https://t.co/JSKw6s6BTo

@QiaochuYuan @meditationstuff yeah adding a bunch of cocoa butter (which is 1/3 stearic acid) into my morning hot chocolate actually makes me super focused: basically does the same thing to me as Adderall but without making me jittery

@nosilverv @ultimape yes I am extremely curious about what @ultimape thinks about this if he reads it. IDK much about his current thinking but i do know he loves human hibernation stuff

@dschorno Its neat how much overlap there is with oxidative stress and gut microbiota. It sounds like that croissants diet is really close to my own. He even nailed the hibernation aspect :Dhttps://t.co/ykH6BgsR9q

@jwmares What if its not the omega-6, but the microbial environment dysfunction, and the inflammation is a side effect?https://t.co/vVVFai002C

@dschorno I gotta dig in more. I'm curious if he avoided some of the more commonly used additives. I found out that one of them commonly used Pillsbury products might actually impair gut microbiota by lowering mucus produciton.https://t.co/TRbg1zK0Dk

I picked an ingredient at random."Dietary Emulsifier Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate Alters Gut Microbiota in vitro and Inhibits Bacterial Butyrate Producers"https://t.co/YhMmPHpapawell fuck me.

Should probably also tag Brad Marshall himself here: @fire_bottle (this essay is mostly about you and your work)

@realBobBruley @TravisWidmann its not really about finding a magic bullet, its more about who gets to decide what the term "healthy food" means, and how those decisions propagate through the food chain. Plus human hibernation, which i think is cool

@dschorno My assumption is that steroids would work to help change the set point.

@forshaper I get the sense that semaglutide does, but i'm not sure if its directly related to this stuff

Also on human hibernation as a general topic: this is an active area of research that is gaining steam. Did you know that NASA is researching it in the context of extended spaceflight? https://t.co/dmIoKjzzyV

in a previous life I lost over 100 pounds primarily eating paleo, and later 60 pounds or so eating keto, so this is compelling to me: figuring out how to create a minimal permanent diet that can prevent weight gain, WITHOUT requiring counting calories or keeping constantly hungry

My experience trying this diet for the past week or so is a huge surplus of energy and focus (comparable to when I used to take adhd meds), and a modest weight loss of about 2-3 pounds. Given what I've been eating, and the satiety that I feel, that seems surprisingly effective.

like i can imagine eating this way basically indefinitely, so even if it only results in like a half pound a week of weight loss it still might work out for me
