It’s a reflection of pain, and cope, that I think is beautiful to read. https://t.co/1ZeBKAtjTj

In a way, it’s not so different from r/stoicism or r/BroPill or really r/[anything]. It’s humanity being human.

I had friends who benefited from it. I was surprised. But there’s glimmers of insight. There’s an acknowledgement of their *problems* in a way other people (society) sometimes won’t take seriously.

I don’t endorse their solutions. But it’s *some* solutions to their perceived problems in a way no one else seems to give a f about or take as seriously as they realised they actually felt them when they went on.

There is a kindness to cults, and copes, and subreddits, that sometimes no one else seems to provide. An illegible sort of kindness. One worth really figuring out anyway. https://t.co/3oRhYg1eBy

😬😬😬 Watching this video in half-laughter and deep terror. So much of cults are indistinguishable from spiritual communities. https://t.co/Ug3WuYDF4t

Everything is a cope and everything is a reflection of pain in some way. Everything is also a reflection of bravery, and sympathy, and truth.

What is the emotional truth for people here? Huh. There is a deep sense of one. An inviolable one (we worry it will cause harm), but one hopefully allowed to evolve into something more individualised, human, and pro-social, in actuality of feeling. https://t.co/IN6ro6P4Uo

Meeting your needs is the best, and the rock solid way to live human life. Until then, acknowledge needs and bring them into the open.

What am I trying to say here? I think the only thing I'm trying to say here is: when it comes to communities it is easy to make fun of, thinking of them as anything other than me is confused they are made out of the same stuff as me https://t.co/Sg6b1Eguj3

The thing I don’t want to say out loud, but feels necessary is: “You fool. How are you even trying to make that distinction? Cults and healthy communities are non-dual. Not the same to be sure, but this distinction you seek does not exist in the way you want it to.”

I can retain judgment, discernment, and action, while not needing to be confused, and thinking of them as anything other than me. https://t.co/CGzNtDwOyl

I am deeply human as them. I have different copes than them.

Thinking I am different from them. That was the distortion. I sensed judgment upon them. Therefore, I felt the need to show that I am not like them, to avoid a judgment upon me. A real me. That hadn't decided if it judged those people yet.

Thinking I am different than them. That was the lie borne on top of what I actually felt out of a social desire to ostracise the right people and dare to be accepted. https://t.co/kVHHArfv5V

To effectively pretend to be a certain way, you have to really believe it, or be aware of it. This impedes any access you might have to how you actually feel. So you live in a fake world, a world “above”, and have no connection with the below. https://t.co/QJlEryFSzi

He who is already muddy is not afraid to go play in the mud with you. He who is already fallen is not afraid to fall with you. He who is already embarassed is not afraid to be doing something embarrassing around you.
