some casual reminders on how to avoid being main character'd, if you wish to avoid it 1. avoid putting your contentious thought in the first tweet 2. separate the contentious thought itself across two tweets IMO this will reduce the severity by about 80%

of course you could just not post the contentious thought at all, or save it for a locked alt, but sometimes the whole point is you want to air the thought publicly to see what happens I think it's worth taking the above precautions bc it raises the avg thoughtfulness of replies

here's another fun tip if you wanna comment on Hot Topic Of The Day but you don't want it to explode too much use like ~3 tweets of buildup & preamble before you address the tweet caveats, context, exceptions, all the reasonable stuff that deters people who just wanna fight

I’ve found that you can often reduce the volume and intensity of retaliatory reactions you’d get when stating Bad and Wrong opinions by framing it as “a part of me sometimes thinks...”
