I really don't know how serious authors do it. like, how did tolkien write LOTR? how did he manage all that information? it's truly bonkers. "oh he used index cards" – that just kicks the can down the road. my guess is you have to enlist your subconscious and perform sorcery

@visakanv It’s a group superpower. Tolkien would never have finished the LOTR without Lewis encouraging him and urging him on. He very nearly abandoned the whole project and said that his decision to press on was “chiefly due to the encouragement” of Lewis. (Bandersnatch, Glyer)
