remember when there was that guy Matt dancing everywhere around the world? That video imprinted on me very deeply when I saw it and became a very critical loadbearing part of my worldview, so deeply embedded and intertwined I don’t even think to mention it

folks like matt and bobby profoundly shaped my view about what is possible when you're an earnest, friendly nerd and you cheerfully invite people to join you https://t.co/034lp8Skq0

I watched this video over a decade ago and still think about it all the time: Bobby McFerrin teaches the audience to be his backing track and performs a song with them in real time https://t.co/vWjO0Dm5nQ

@visakanv I've been working on the first two parts and this twitter thread reminds me that the third part (cheerfully inviting others to join) is important too to cultivate that Dancing in Mumbai Matt/McFerrin energy. When one isn't careful, nerdy becomes professorial instead of playful

@visakanv One of the things I draw out of the McFerrin video is that it's as much about the observer experience as it is about the information. It's about the relationship; the nerdy stuff is a vector to tap into that. Maybe it's not about the object level of nerdery.

@forthrighter yup! another thing I think about is neil tyson's point about sensitivity. (which... he doesn't live up to himself all the time, but it's still fundamentally correct I feel) https://t.co/quVBbFurCc

3. Neil Tyson's criticism of Richard Dawkins: "Being an educator is not only getting the truth right, but there's got to be an act of persuasion in there as well... Here are the facts, and here is a sensitivity to your state of mind. It's facts + sensitivity that creates impact." https://t.co/jGi0t1sQTw
