I call this “tainting.” My feeling of it is it becomes tainted with coercion. It becomes something I have to do in X contexts with Y result. It’s not fun, playful, and I forget the felt sense of why I wanted to do it before.

@meditationstuff often talks about his “meta-protocol.” Meditation techniques seem to stop working after a while, and there’s a need for a meta-protocol always adapting and refactoring. https://t.co/BNyK8aW3AO

There’s something about the word “technique” itself that feels so barren and inhumane. Of course it stops working. We’re trying to model ourselves as a robotic human being. Of course it stops working. Life changes and is effervescent.

Of course it stops working. The technique has lost its humanity and sensitivity to the moment, and become applied, expectant, and rushing. https://t.co/n7NKPqFHWw

Maybe this is also how relationships and sex lives die. When he moves in for a kiss, it is expected what to do. There is no aliveness, nor room to breathe. The relationship has asphyxiated itself, and there is nothing to do but take a deep breath in.

More generally: “Codification kills the aliveness of processes.” https://t.co/uIT3qDS8r9

@AskYatharth same reason a game tactic stops working if you keep using it—opponent outsmarts & blocks it guessing what's going on is some part of you doesn't trust the technique or how you're using it broadly, solution is to find a way to get all parts bought into iterating tech to suit

@AskYatharth In my experience: When I discover a new technique, I find so many low-hanging fruit! Fruit bonanza! But - after a bit, I’ve picked all the low-hanging fruit. The technique still *works,* but I need to build a bigger ladder (i.e. more support) to keep reaching its fruit.

@AskYatharth In practice, I’m going through a period of this right now. Like, goddamn, I’ve made so many positive changes in myself and life that only the really-scary core wounds are left 😂😂 I don’t think I need different techniques tho, just more...felt safety

@AskYatharth Oh also! I heard somewhere: “you can only do so much healing by yourself. after a certain point, it only works in community.” I can’t personally vouch for it since I’m still at the “build community” step, but...it fits my intuition.
