I don't trust the microbiome aspects of this study because they don't control diet well for the twin on the ground and over the course of the study the one in space didn't drink any wine due to how the filters work against alcohol. https://t.co/SfOMqmLJhc

As I am looking at at red wine related metabolites to mediate calcium related microbes and control liver metabolism (as it relates to hibernation related pathways in bears) I feel this is a huge oversight. Was really upsetting to find. https://t.co/kcXV9xBlBZ

Do a twin study but not control for space food?🤪"could be due to the food he consumed while on the space station (mainly freeze-dried or thermo-stabilized prepackaged food) although other space-specific environmental factors may have also contributed. "https://t.co/u8KT9ycpEO

Did you know that just having twins nets a higher rate of autism due to inter-utero competition for resources and the resulting impact on immune function in the parent.https://t.co/w6a1DOoRs0

How do you a twin study to disambiguate if being a twin is more likely to lead to both being more susceptible to autism and causing false positives in exploring the impact of heritable factors?

I really hope we do better at controlling for environmental factors in the future.https://t.co/eIuiURkHgi

I basically question every single "twin study" done to 'prove' autism is genetic/heritable because the very nature of having an identical twin would predispose the individuals to having brain development issues under the right circumstances.

Even between two different samples on the same person we see differences in "microbial diversity".Stuff like this shows up in almost every human and animal study that bothered to check:https://t.co/pKCzhYslX4Why do we blindly associate microbial diversity with health? Dumb.

With so much noise in the data, and such a different diet between the space and the earth twin, I can't really see how any conclusions can be drawn about space's impact on microbiota. What if space food just sucks? I'd really love to see an earth control.https://t.co/ZFBRLMvrBG

Did you know that Akkermansia is one of the ones that seems to be downregulated when in space?I really really want to know why.https://t.co/lKToaAg4MF

This missing microbe could directly relate to higher colon cancer we see as a result.https://t.co/IQLD7bAdspBut what do I know. I'm not a NASA microbiologist.

Why would rectal mucus be an early warning sign for colon cancer?https://t.co/aVoW4MKJ4n

Why does sleep issues and shift-work increase cancer risk? Why would colon cancer be more likely? What about gut microbes? Hmm.https://t.co/zPebswSBQP

Both autism and Crohn's seem to be predisposing me to Colon cancer. And some of the immune therapy drugs i'd likely be on for M.S. also increase the risk https://t.co/gnc2XYileuIt'd be nice if we could figure out why.https://t.co/eN7dIs24f9

Hydrogen Sulfide and Hydrogen Peroxide are both oddly implicated in space related gut changes. Both of these are huge players in hibernation and viral resistance.https://t.co/cCElTWyabCWould be funny if astronaut food promotes bad microbiota when in a zero G environment. https://t.co/wEaDKlvikm
