Giving yourself permission to be immoral and irrational is probably the single best thing you can do for being more moral and more rational, because it means you don't end up massively in denial and rationalising your behaviour when you inevitable fall short of your ideals.

"You're being a jerk" "No I'm not, they deserve it" vs "You're being a jerk" "Yes. What of it?" Perhaps you shouldn't be a jerk, but it's better to just own it. The optimal amount of jerkdom isn't zero anyawy.

This kinda ties into https://t.co/EvrJVuu9X2 - sometimes our behaviour is disappointing and that can just be... not a big deal? "Yes I am currently failing to live up to my ideals. That's a bit disappointing, but I'm not going to self flagellate over it."
