current view on community and atomization and all that Most of our social tech was developed in contexts where not being part of the group was way more costly, or even impossible this means most social tech can be pretty nasty/abusive/coercive/just-plain -yuck

the closer you get to post scarcity, the less you need others from a material survival perspective you can say "fuck this group, they aren't going to treat me well" not entirely, but more people have more ability to do this than in the past

There's still the psychological component of needing other people and community and meaning and all that But I think a lot of atomization is "the existing social tech has NASTY externalities, and I'm actually just gonna take the L and split given that it's actually possible"

this makes me think the path forward has to be making NEW social tech. Like, what's a way of being together that is actually compelling to people who have enough freedom to opt out if it hurts them a lot?

it's also why though I love plenty of old shit and feel weirded out by a lot of "modern" shit, trad isn't really compelling to me
