"If a dream wasn't perfectly normal, it would be the weirdest thing that ever happened to you." Interesting. Recently I dreamt that I was living in a slightly alternate timeline โ still me, but unmarried and living with my parents (common in SG/Asia) โ and we had a big fight https://t.co/zRqgtyvDX1

I woke up as I usually do from difficult dreams โ elevated heart rate, shallow breathing, lots of muscular tension โ and I calmed myself down. "just a dream. and interesting one, too โ surprising that my brain has held on to the seeds of that fictional fight for so many years"

but it didn't occur to me to think โ how much of this interpretation is shaped/informed by my understanding of dreams themselves, which in turn is shaped by pop-sci theory/ideology, and the reading I've done? WHAT IS A DREAM? it's subject to interpretation!

like, what if I didn't have any ideas about what dreams are? all I know is that I go to sleep and I experience these vivid hallucinations โ even the word "hallucination" betrays my worldview. what if I didn't have an idea of what a hallucination is? I ๐ด & experience things

apparently mesopotamians would tell their bad dreams to a piece of clay then throw it into water, to dissolve the destructive energy of the dream Egypt: also had this sense of "adverse effects of bad dreams". vivid dreams = you're blessed greeks: communion with gods https://t.co/H9VOWCqb2z

wack to really think about https://t.co/3LpjhyDxPQ
