every time i'd look at the site i'd be like "DAMN, why is every interesting person i've ever heard of coming to talk at this?" not only did all the topics sound like things i'd like, the speakers were often people i'd already heard of from spending time on post-rat twitter

and over the course of almost a year, i've been to only 9 events despite loving each event, and 100% having ample time to go to more. and I haven't engaged with the community at all. https://t.co/awf9CT9yTf

a big thing seems like: "FUCK. All of my niche disparate interests have been collected together under a semi-legible banner! that means soon there'll be a 'new kind of stoa guy' that people will recognize and be able to make fun of! i must flee!"

it's very much the dynamic laid out in this thread. https://t.co/ifCxKszTzv

scary thing: I was anticipating ways that the stoa could be stereotyped and made fun of and that anticipation smoothly blended into *projecting all that energy* onto the stoa. "They could be made fun of this way" -> "They are derision worthy in this way"

it's like... an accelerationist version of what scott describes i didn't even need to hear someone shit talk the stoa. IT BEING A LEGIBLE ENTITY that others *could* talk about was enough for me to begin mentally distancing https://t.co/sQQdf08LLh
