I know of 3 different dogs that can speak better than me sometimes.Part of why I quote tweet so much is to borrow my own words.https://t.co/AuSkIzdXlf

I teach people around me how I communicate when I can't use my words.https://t.co/g2NFPYJStq

"In the current study, Ingersoll found that toddlers and preschoolers with autism who were taught imitation skills made more attempts to draw the examiner's attention to an object through gestures and eye contact, a key area of deficit in autism." Neathttps://t.co/gfTYpNn5qC

The hardest problem is to teach another living being how you make meaning. So few are listening for other kinds of 'voice'.https://t.co/f2FRmaj9j7

My mind works differently than yours. Maybe it is your theory of mind that is broken?https://t.co/Aekp6r4BCX

I'm trying to get the dog to tease us. And for real, not just the normal human projection thing that most people assume about the dog's stance. The dog has to know what we know and reverse it onto the state of the world.Teaching theory of mind to a dog.https://t.co/5s9pQNR28v

What *are* words? How would you be able to understand how a dog speaks if you are demanding it speaks your brand of human?https://t.co/B7ALWSA0yn https://t.co/ka7diKAzcg

Barking to get your attention.https://t.co/2yh9qOMWA5

So many mental models bad. So I bark. at. it.https://t.co/cH5NMTfRau

But I can't synchronize my thoughts well enough to transmit.https://t.co/HWiwDP1juz

I can't translate my metaphors into your frame.https://t.co/PtO8ZWUF3T

I see things you don't, because I don't sync with you.https://t.co/hemNrv3gU6

I have to keep repeating myself.https://t.co/vquOEVVdHO

Pointing. Gesturing. Squirrel!https://t.co/BYNv7lKRi4

Solidifying, Crystalizing, Directing, Growing, Training, Directing...Your attention.https://t.co/KS90idM8St

Imagine trying to clicker train a deaf dog and then abusing it because it isn't listening correctly. This is what I see. Everywhere.https://t.co/ZUY7td0qds

How would you know if the dog is deaf?https://t.co/Trq1anCNRuEver stop and wonder if pointing might be as much an auditory process related phenomena as it is a visual one?https://t.co/qMvuzIpFUc

Maybe you're deaf? What sensory experience are you missing out on that would help you to speak better with me?https://t.co/QuI4woQ9SZ

What if you're wrong about the psychology of a dog?https://t.co/lGPoTeBQGt

We project our own experience on to the other, and then wonder why we can't communicate.https://t.co/cd524efiob

A dog with a poor gut microbiome and troubled immune system due to crappy diet would be more likely to get sick eating poop. So of course people at large interpret eating poop with causing disease in dogs. But in some cases this a misinterpretation of cause/effect.

You're a foolish dog.https://t.co/cgT6MCA3L6

*begins to whine, but then bites my own tongued because In school I was punished for that behaviorThe scar reopens and my mouth is covered in blood.*https://t.co/pphayW1B3J

I started to enjoy the pain.https://t.co/B4SEuaZhJo

"All our technology and experience, our universal translator, our years in space, contacts with more alien cultures than I can even remember. [...] And we still can't even say hello to these people."https://t.co/ZGDkrdddFZ

Do I repeat myself? Very well, I repeat myself.I am autistic, and communication anxiety gives me echolalia."older children, where the echolalia is triggered by stress and anxiety." https://t.co/OEF8ANmNpAhttps://t.co/8L2EGdgso2

They're working on teaching this dog to recognize it's self.https://t.co/efbPJ3EjJT

I have been personally training my GF's dog to understand eye gaze so she can learn to pay attention to what I pay attention to. Slow going, but I don't have to point for hidden ball as often. We are probably going to build one of those sound boards for her.

Hoping to be able to use it to teach her words for things once she's mastered joint attention. I suspect that is also a core issue in autism associated language acquisition problems. https://t.co/jZ6RbSIoPC and suspect doing it for the dog will speed up her language acquisition.

Ants can pass the mirror test and wasps can recognize each other's faces. Psychologists make me laugh.https://t.co/YAGLl0Rr1i

I'm going to see if we can train the dog to recognize her self in a mirror. She's highly visual driven, so she's a good candidate.https://t.co/X8Qd2T9ea5

I often don't recognize myself in a mirror unless I am in a bathroom and have context cues.My best guess is that body awareness issues mean I don't intuit my own body's positioning well enough to build up a mental map to cancel out my 'self' in mirror https://t.co/I2zuzDJypb

"mirror mark paradigm played a pivotal role in the investigation of the animal self. This approach typically lacks the possibility for formulating well-grounded ecological theories that may have driven the evolution of such capacities in nonhuman species" https://t.co/N1xM6uyqlh

"[maybe] a bat, for example, which depends on sonar to get around, is self-conscious, but that sighted humans just don’t know how to formulate a test to measure this because we’re visually oriented, [...] argues in his book What It’s Like to Be a Dog."https://t.co/0DnJ8lj20e
