"tool for independence" is code word for "we market this to parents who are obsessed with having their children not be seen as autistic, because they have built up trauma from their own lives that they haven't processed yet, and don't realize how this hurts the child." https://t.co/qjRIPmaAsD

Train your child like a dog to speak on command and then wonder why they have anxiety issues around watches and going to school.https://t.co/ZUY7td0qds

We treat dogs like shit, and then treat humans like dogs. And then wonder why ABA therapy isn't working.https://t.co/mYs4gYSpz6

Every time I find something that might help my autism associated issues, I go thru a mental process that involves thinking about how parents & doctors will ignorantly force it on children (often in frustration) & how child won't be able to ask for help.https://t.co/sjOa0Rwc5M

There are two types of autism technology aids that try to help with "communication", those that seek to control the child, and those that try to help them express themselves as they are in away others (and sometimes themselves) can understand.I seek the latter.

I keep seeing ads for wearables for "children with special needs" that are blatant advertisements to parents who are worried about their children wandering away. That at least has some justification because children wandering and then getting lost is a huge problem.

I still think about how often the GPS trackers are made by companies that also make ankle bracelets for inmates, and how shitty some parents can be to their children.

I have been trying to find out how to use GPS stuff offline because I don't want some cloud service app tracking me and getting hacked. This is a problem with children's ones https://t.co/2fvzola5QjThere is value here, but also danger.https://t.co/edUihkDQwc

I want an app to curate info on businesses/venues to help people remember + assist avoiding stressful places. I'd call it Shape of my Spoon.

And that doesn't include my fear of tracking tools that will straight up target your child's behavior as part of a surveillance apparatus meant to sell you ads.https://t.co/kmGOOE9sm5

A company, known for using their health tracking data to target advertisements, partners with leading health brands to get health tracking tools directly into your school!https://t.co/AnbDTpXsZd

Friendly reminder that most child abductions are done by people who know the child, often parental. Your husband/wife will likely still have the app on the phone.https://t.co/bHy10kYs7mBoth my parents were paranoid the other was going to steal me away. It was super obnoxious.

Having a GPS/proximity alert device attached to your autistic child is a good idea if they wander tho. There is a good chance if you call the police, you could get cited for neglect and get hounded by child protective services. More so if you are a minority / impoverished.

Another option is a temporary tattoo with your phone number.Authentic Henna can be used as well, and lasts a bit longer. Also useful for adults.(Just avoid the black one because it can cause burns.)https://t.co/74LSw2EThe

For marking a phone number on my skin... Maybe henna? It seems that long-lasting "black henna" kind would likely give me a reaction.https://t.co/ss90vbQS26

I got lucky growing up in the back woods of Vermont; I was able to wander. My mom thought me how to navigate early on and what to do if I got lost and be safe about it. But I know that a lot of city-dwelling autistic types don't have those experiences.

Another group that seems to do weird wandering behavior is people with Alzheimers. I often wonder if the delirium / memory / disorientation effect that seems to occur there is also exhibited in a similar way in Autistic Wandering.

Both groups of people are more likey to experience sub-clininical (and full blown) pellagra. This might be the underlying cause of that behavior, as well as possibly rummaging behaviors. What is "marble burrying" anyway?https://t.co/WycbavBgPm https://t.co/lbgtCXyaPo
