Co-entrainment is rapidly becoming my organising principle for understanding human interactions.

Explains coercion/tightness, vibe/flow, creepy/awkward, small talk/non-verbal syncing, dancing/talking, simulation/self-simulation, group-maintained salience, etc.

Fascinating: co-entrainment over text in way that is novel and says something about emotional expression https://t.co/jWjh2cVNPA

@spiral_virus This is incredibly astute. I can’t believe I haven’t seen more on this Emotions developed in part to be visible, as a costly signal of our state or co-entrainment mechanism What happens when we text? No need to actually laugh out loud . . yet something happens Way understudied

co-creating relational art, in sympatico https://t.co/A6wzEay4OT

@PrinceVogel I'll stray from the crowd and say I immediately got what you mean sympatico it’s not just resonance. It could be dissonance. In its own powerful, nuanced way it’s about relational art, and being in rhythm (not tempo) with the other

Non-normie = you want to act in this way that feels authentic and real, but it doesn’t seem to co-entrain with most people most of the time

Another application of co-entrainment. “Each non-empty interval of experience contains in it a microcosm of the dynamics.” https://t.co/1K2sj7RMSf

The interaction has happened before it has happened. Especially with partners, parents, and those we’ve interacted with before. We tense up, gear up, expect, and in the harmonic dynamics of this microsecond is contained a lot of the entire interaction, spelled out right there.

Imagining other peoples’ voice in my head. Imagining their voice co-entrains me into their patterns.

Co-entrainment to co-regulate nervous systems and ease the load of the pendulum swings and amplify others. The power of two regulators vs one. https://t.co/83qCIyUICV

We use partners to co-entrain and become as one computational substrate, processing, dampening, and harmonising the variations of our days or moments together into one. https://t.co/N2zayqw51O

Co-entrainment for trust. “Like trains trying to hitch together, you want to match vibes first.” https://t.co/SLnkUIPXmK

Making someone let go of something their system still considers it important to hold on to is like trying to invite them onto the fun carousel by grabbing their hand when they’re not moving. One of the other of you is going to get hurt.

Co-entrainment for vulnerability. https://t.co/tfMJfmychx

This is also why hippie people who dive “too deep” into vulnerability with more normal people have in a sense failed—they wanted to vibe, but they didn’t get hitched onto them right first.
