How am I supposed to know if I'm getting enough Vitamin C in my diet if it's not listed on the Labels?I've been reading how its an important nutrient for neutralizing tannins and phytases + other 'anti-nutrients'.Apparently it prevents coffee and teas from destroying B1.

"It is possible that heavy coffee or tea drinkers may have nervous symptoms associated with thiamin deficiency and be misdiagnosed or not seek medical help. This area merits further research"Hilker & Somogyi: Antithiamins of Plant Origin [1982]10.1111/j.1749-6632.1982.tb31192.x

This idea is fun: plausable that we are able to recycle Vitamin C via DHA (an omega-3?) uptake in blood cells?!https://t.co/CRG7Rp79ZXI am wondering if what we're seeing are interactions between gut bacteria and antioxidant processes around heme.https://t.co/PhvSvMk9wn

There are all sorts of weird interactions between Omega 3s and Glutathione. I have no idea how any of this works tho.https://t.co/JhqNFOvJv7

That DHA -> vitamin C process seems to act via GLUT1. I know GLUT1 is one of the suspected gene mutations that has an impact on autism.https://t.co/p56UZFpCJM

Seems that it's not the omega-3 variety."This article is about the vitamin C metabolite. For the omega-3 fatty acid also abbreviated as DHA, see Docosahexaenoic acid."https://t.co/p1NzMiCZz2Abbreviations Seriously Suck.

Even more interesting then...It seem a form of B12 acts as a cataylist to convert Dehydroascorbic Acid to back to Vitamin C with... Glutathione!https://t.co/rg8IprjOdP

Seems I need to explore GLUT1's role in blood absorption of Dehydroascorbic Acid/Vitamin C synthesis, and in much more depth.Possible that this could be a partial reason for collagen synthesis disorders among Ehlers-Danlos syndrome too? https://t.co/HFa24DBKhz

I don't seem to have the GLUT1 deficiency, but I researched all of this too. Wondering why so many degenerative neural disorders manifest with Sweet Tooths is what lead me to https://t.co/DMxZGreo0s andran down this rabbit hole: https://t.co/z4t5YRQpAT https://t.co/DtwvgNvFhy

That other paper on Dehydroascorbic Acid was from 2008.Here's a follow up that dives into more details on the possible GLUT-1 Vitamin C connection.https://t.co/8UAynMRman

Vitamin C is fascinating.https://t.co/wpMied15S1

I repeat myself. It seems.https://t.co/y8qN6K6TLY

Dumb."I discovered that the practice of the USDA labs with respect to muscle meat of mammals is to fill in vitamin C as assumed to be zero! [...] Every micronutrient was measured directly, with the exception of vitamin C."https://t.co/8uqUthgZN4https://t.co/GCOaOjzflA

Fun: when I learn something about human nutrition, Grim seems to be ahead of me. 🙌 But no mention of GLUT1 or This weird Vitamin C recycling thing I found?https://t.co/xWZePcF5mI

I should just search his feed before google'ing. <3https://t.co/2WSSPZGJUa

If the USDA isn't even measuring Vitamin C in meat stuffs, it sounds like the answer is to find someone who can and pay them, or DIY?This talks about doing it on tablets, but The Fluorometric Method may work if they've used it on liver and milk?https://t.co/AOoTPq3JZy

Ah, HPLC may do the trick. Seems outside the range of an amateur tho."Electrochemical Determination of Ascorbic Acid and Isoascorbic Acid in Ground Meat and in Processed Foods by High Pressure Liquid Chromatography." https://t.co/uYn9Ff9L8j

The more I learn about food and institutions associated with it, the more I hate everything about it.https://t.co/rjd0GmRixm https://t.co/MXRZiY9FbO

I wonder of john harvey kellog was into vitamin C as an anti-masturbatory aid.https://t.co/HGl96WTqrT

Cereal is a sugary breakfast soup popularized in part by a guy who thought it would help prevent wicked masturbation. Tho, he appeared quite observant and talked about squatting / imbalances due to constipation. Probably wouldn't put sugar on his flakes.https://t.co/3c5ESNg63u https://t.co/7BkSMFNFtU

I think its funny that the Treatise of the Scurvy didn't show up until 1753 https://t.co/UtjFBaQ5f0 when navies had been using fermented pickles for centuries.https://t.co/9AXaoFZaPKhttps://t.co/LKY88nahOV https://t.co/pFFA6el9rN

Trying to figure out if Viking communities would have used pickled cucumbers. They had access to cabbage at least. https://t.co/6EqpOBj5uV https://t.co/1vhShaWC7Q

"Kimchi, sauerkraut’s Korean cousin, was historically used during winter to stave off vitamin deficiencies, while early records show workers building the Great Wall of China ate fermented cabbage regularly when fruit was not available." https://t.co/Omnkm6dtL8 https://t.co/BpFfIkc70R

No wait. It's in the name. SkyrbjĂşgr?Skyr is basically yogurt or kefir. So it should be a source of vitamin C maybe? Hmmhttps://t.co/ocELv0rROf https://t.co/NBtCD7RFjs

I wonder what would happen if you over did an unpasteurized probiotic.https://t.co/ehIoIjMnYk

Tho looking at vitamin profiles they might not be using varieties that make vitamin C? Would be neat if its actually that the bacteria kill that DHA thing or impair glutathione when consumed in high quantities. That would also cause something like scurvy.

This 1997 paper suggests that Vitamin C -> dehydroascorbic acid -> ascorbate recycling related process may be modifiable by bacteria (and the yeast Candida Albicans?!) https://t.co/bEhf1kL4UBSo what happens if you drink to much raw Skyr and it kills them off? SkyrbjĂşgr?

"Fed a diet of pure grain, the animals showed no signs of beriberi, but quickly sickened and died of something that closely resembled human scurvy."https://t.co/0MhCvhEAw6https://t.co/fXZWdcFSJK

I care a lot about the breed of citrus. People don't realize that you can cross breed grapefruit into other oranges and they can cause problems with hypertensive drugs and heart meds.https://t.co/Ryi1n8EfK5

Cara Cara variety of oranges are trending. They smell like grapefruit to me, so I am weary of them.Turns out they may have extra Carotenoids? https://t.co/O9iqFmLWGY

Wish they didn't just do these studies on rats, but also guinea pigs."Hepatic glutathione peroxidase activity was significantly lower in the [highest IU retinyl palmitate/kg diet] group compared to the other groups"https://t.co/ZOlVRxBWhF

Lutein and Carotene are probably good to have to fight macular degeneration if you have risk factors. Its weird to me how often an age related diseases are tied to chemicals that act on epigenetic signaling pathways.https://t.co/CBkx7USDin

"review, [...] nutrients for the prevention and treatment of macular degeneration and eye-related diseases. These nutrients are anthocyanins, carotenoids (lutein, zeaxanthin, and β-carotene), vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, and selenium" https://t.co/VKkms7GSEd

Amazing how many pathways tied to epigenetic signaling end up being weird in autism.Do you think they make autistic (literal) guinea pigs?https://t.co/D6w4pja6Ff https://t.co/zq4pJS0Gi3

Would be funny if our problem is due to mouse models overlooking an essential glutathione /vit C / Vit A metabolic pathway that impacts gene expression factors associated with neurodegenerative disorders.https://t.co/iNiScDGIbK

I wonder if Guinea Pigs have baculum.https://t.co/iiDVP7A1rV

1) yes they have baculum. You can buy replicas online.2) the boars can also sometimes have spikey bits on their phallus3) you have to clean the males sometimes 🤮4) this makes them shreik like when you pet them5) this video is not safe for workhttps://t.co/GA6w1tRLHg

Guinea pigs apparently don't have TRPV4 receptors in their urethrae. Which means they probably are less likely to have "it burns while I pee" phenomena. It bothers me a lot to think about *how* we know this.https://t.co/igapdDybDS

I don't wanna breed guinea pigs to experiment on them. I wanna breed guinea pigs to eat them.https://t.co/MeFeVAMcrA

For the planet! đź’…"There's a clear cultural prejudice against eating guinea pigs, and rodents in general, in the United States, But finding ways to reduce our carbon footprint is a good idea, and so is eating small livestock, like guinea pigs."https://t.co/7EE7xquNN2
