"A hardcore gamer plays at least 5 hours a day" is reductive IMO. There are many other ways to be "hardcore". I say if you've ever - lost a job due to an MMO - broken up with someone over gaming - gone into games as a career then you're a Hardcore Gamer in my book.

I sort of believe that unironically? That there's tiers to it. There's a big difference between "enjoying Starcraft" and "being in Master League." A big difference between "I watch eSports sometimes" and "my parents disowned me."

I do think that people who only play Upset Avians are still Gamers, by the way. If you *want* to identify with a label, that honestly says a lot about your interest. Lots of reasons why people don't play more than their interest. No need to gatekeep the entire community.
