https://t.co/yqikg2QdXE finally *clicked* for me something about 1. writing goals in a way I’m excited about 2. ordering them very strictly 3. asking “did I do enough” 4. having quarter-based themes so question #3 means something https://t.co/bL21JgaeY1

The purpose of goals is to influence how we behave in the present, to organise us to move in a particular direction. Whether we achieve that goal is almost irrelevant. https://t.co/hPJZjuwiB2

but it finally *clicked* for me when I really did write them in a way that felt like *fun* throw in those emojis, make overly detailed specific lists, know that you will accomplish x out of n of them https://t.co/edQbVDI3P3

2. ordering my goals very strictly It just makes it so clear maintaining N different goals with vague timelines is so hard. ordering my goals makes it simple. I ask “have I done enough for Goal #0?” If not, fix that. “Have I done enough for Goal #1?” . . . and so on. https://t.co/1an8fNWdCI

often times, what we lack is not motivation but ~clarity~ we have lots of little motivation vectors pointing in different directions. the result is net force zero clarity helps https://t.co/tmakCatTZd

you might notice my goals aren’t *strictly* the order of importance but how rather much emphasis i want to give them e.g.: - I’m likely to ignore exercise, so it goes up - Bliss affects all the other goals, so it goes up - I’m temporarily worried about my system, so it goes up

I’m very clear about one thing: For any N, if I only accomplish N goals, they will have been the right N goals I call this ~graceful failure~ As for what do I mean by “have I done enough?” It brings me to . . .

3. asking “did I do enough” This is one of Malcolm’s genuises. Every day, Complice asks you, for each goal, “did you do enough?” i.e., if for every day like this, you did something like what you did today, would you be on track? https://t.co/LcxlWHxzzD

This single questions turns finite games and *fake deadlines* you set for yourself into ~infinite games~ It’s transformative, works for solopreneurs/people on their own schedules, and I can’t imagine achieving nebulous goals without it finally:

4. having quarter-based themes so “is it enough” means something even with infinite games, you need a sense of *time* (your life is not infinite) the single best way is to set a Theme. they’re like new year’s resolutions, but better https://t.co/HblFwmE2uc

each season feels different, each season carries a new emotional reverent tone this one is my Quarter of Survival 3 months is just long enough to see results of real behavioural change, while not being so long (*cough* New Year’s Resolutions *cough) that feel you have forever

@AskYatharth I like the term "Famself"! I currently have a goal titled "Fluid Selfing", which I imagine is pretty similar in many ways. Inspired by the term "selfing" from https://t.co/ulOyz0k06F
