Crowdsourcing a deeper meaning: what is therapy? Not just "what happens at a therapist's office," though it could be there. Or alone in the woods, or with a shaman or friend. What does it mean to say someone experienced effective therapy?

@Malcolm_Ocean I think you may be mixing 2 things here: -- what do we use the word "therapy" for? -- what constitutes effective or transformational change in patterns of thought / feeling / behavior, or in how we relate to those experiences?

@Malcolm_Ocean Because for "what is therapy?" there's also this kind of bureaucratic answer -- it's not exciting but is important for clarification https://t.co/3Icbcz7RG0

@SarahAMcManus Ahhh same minds! I actually wrote this tweet seeking elaboration on the non-bureaucratic answer, having written a thread/rant about the confusion between the two meanings. https://t.co/mZdMGwa9nh

"therapy" is doing a tricksy ambiguity 1. therapy = "go see someone registered as a therapist" (may not help, or retraumatize) 2. therapy = "untangling your stuff, particularly via therapeutic reconsolidation process" by defn #2, @visakanv's DMs may actually just *be* therapy https://t.co/KukvWHQ4RJ
