Our greatest virtues are all too often a ready cloak for our most pernicious sins.A real sense of urgency often masks unreasoning anxiety. A desire for truth can mask a desire to control others. An appreciation of leisure can mask laziness.

It's not at all that these virtues are fake. It's just that they're all-too-convenient for a particular form of cope.
