as a kid, i knew to stay in the closet because it was met with eye rolls as a budding rationalist, i knew to stay in the closet because it was met with "the discourse on this is so stupid, we solved it ages ago"

i received the message that "ooooo, i wanna talk about free will!" was the signal of being a dumb ass basic bitch i also knew that "concluding there's no free will and being a miserable fuck" was a classic mistake and to be avoided...

...which helped me feel more shitty when I concluded there was no free-will and was a miserable fuck I'll have you know it took quite a lot of mental gymnastics to live "aaaaah no free will!!!!!!!!" while never consciously thinking anything that looked like that sentence

these aren't akrasia-esque examples. these are boldly and blithelessly going full steam ahead on a dual-consciousness contradiction one of my writing goals is to explicate more of these in more detail.

i harp a lot on "fear and social pressure push people towards the image over the substance" that's a real and important mechanism, and relevant to many of my issues and also, sometimes things are just really tricky. like wiggling your ears
