they did "occult examinations" on him (a 14 year old) and supposedly discovered information about his past & future lives. Then other Theosophists apparently had interacted with him in those....

...and that became a matter of status in Theosophism. Which is creepy, since it seems apparent they were propping him up within the theosophical society as a totem

But then later in life he dissolves the same group (Order of the Star in the East) that did this to him. 🀯 And that's just *one crazy anecdote* from this man's life.

he seems to have taken aggressive steps towards the end of his life to ensure that no one else would claim to be his "successor" and that no one founded a school on his back, so to speak

(Pause for a moment, to think about what a heavy trip it would have been for an occult organization to pick you out at age 14 and tell you that you're the "World Teacher") https://t.co/hfUXFW8ACI

Side tangent: to pick a person and elevate them is a form of Millenarianism. The idea that there will be some moment or change where the world will transform (a savior, an apocalypse, whatever). Seems spiritually lazy, since then...you only need to wait. https://t.co/dcx8Zls50s

@forthrighter only spiritually lazy to those lacking adequate delusions of grandeur!counterpoint: it's a sure fire way to ensure that the most charismatically unhinged of your successors will keep trying to change the world
