defining features of Tests: 1. grading is determined by some Authority. Passing is defined by what someone or some group decided passing should be. by this frame, something like "surviving for 30 days in the wilderness after a plane crash" is not a Test

Tests cover literal exams you take in school, but also all school work, and college admissions, and hunting for internships, and job applications. Importantly, it also covers the sort of taste that is "Like what the cool kids like". Most status markers are Tests

the unifying feature I'm tracking is having clear grading system. You get a score that tells you exactly "how well you are doing" and lets you compare yourself to others . A Test hands you a simple well defined value system and insists you want the highest sore

the main habit that living in a world of Tests develops in you is Hunting For The Rubric this is what eventually erodes any sort of self-reliance, confidence, conviction, etc the carpenter is Seinfeld is the spirit animal for the result https://t.co/WsQ40x5mgJ

You may not know what a Test entails, but you know you want to "do well" on it. You do this my Hunting For The Rubric and figuring out how to maximize your score. some results: crippling indecision when no rubric is present, and ignoring anything that won't be on the Test
