i wanted to write a tweet like this for awhile but i reflected on it a bit more and realized that "dopamine" actually has a pretty comfortable ecological niche as referring to a particular kind of gambling-like experience, independent of any underlying neurochemistry https://t.co/N1wobASYfl

which is why i wrote this thread instead: https://t.co/ft1emz52dV

"dopamine = hope" thing is actually a somewhat indirect translation into punchy emotional language of the reward prediction error hypothesis. i couldn't find a similarly compelling description of serotonin and as far as i know there isn't one https://t.co/uEfFV9mfco

@QiaochuYuan "hope" is great for dopamine—nice! Translation attempts for serotonin: - fullness - okayness - satisfaction - abundance - security - dignity sources: various things, including its relevance to food-satiety & these vivid 🤯 paragraphs from @s_r_constantin https://t.co/ezyxoUBwX9 https://t.co/jqap1Wzs0c
