people don’t say this out loud as much but self-loathing is a form of narcissism https://t.co/wC3yCI0vmk

it’s also very often a sort of preemptive strike; if you hate yourself first it hurts a little less in comparison when other people hate you https://t.co/0SeqXEdQ3h https://t.co/a6d6pr6mhI

when you let go of your self-loathing, which is a form of addiction, a fearful attempt at self-preservation via stasis and control https://t.co/ODrtWyXh8P

@visakanv I was recently explaining this to a friend who did something wrong and then was so self-loathing about it. Like..hey, you know that as long as you’re hating yourself, there is no room to own the impact of your actions? You hating you is only going to take away from responsibility

@visakanv Right. Oh I just thought of another example! I had a call scheduled with a friend and totally fucked up and didn’t have it on my calendar, so I missed it. I apologized, he said no worries, done and done. The next day I happened to be at an event where I saw him. I ran over and

@visakanv gave him a big hug. I hadn’t seen him in a while and i was happy to see him. Someone nearby said “wow what’s that for?” And he said “she feels bad about missing a call yesterday” and I pulled back and said “huh? I’m just happy to see you.” And he said “you don’t feel BAD? About

@visakanv missing a call at the last minute?” And I said “I felt bad yesterday but I... don’t still feel bad now?” And it struck me that it’s a dance he’s used to seeing. Sort of like when the check comes at a restaurant and people argue about who will pay.
