as a kid, the fragile strategy that I learned in order to meet my needs was "be the protagonist" (slightly different from "I am the protagonist")

two ways this changed when I read the sequences: 1) I got enough clear thinking to realize the strat could fail me 2) the replacement strat I absorbed was "be the RATIONAL protagonist"

this put me in a strange juxtaposition where I simultaneously believed the only thing I *could* do was Rational Protagonism, and also any specific aspect of my strat could be torn apart by my Rational Doubt Laser Vision if attention so happened to fall upon it

basically, I learned to Doubt, but I didn't learn how to build conviction. I'm sure I can find parts of the sequences that are about conviction, and if I read them now I'd probs thing they're A++ but the only "conviction" i was able to get was dif flavor of Protagonism
