growth and abundance homies only. acquire new skills. learn new languages. try new things. fail 100,000 times and be excited because you’re smart and you’re learning from it https://t.co/ZLc9vyoVXd

btw an important part of how Kanye went from being a music producer to becoming a rapper to doing fashion is that he refused to buy into assumptions about what one person is capable of https://t.co/RgB5pc4cl2

Hypothesis: If you think of Kanye as a “status deregulator”, he makes a lot more sense. He’s willing to be wrong, to be insulted, mocked, etc in order to achieve his long-term goal of being relatively free from the constraints of other people’s status rules

“Orson. Your stage productions are really something. You really know how to do Shakespeare. Why do you wanna risk that to go into the movie business? It’s a totally different game... you need a totally different skillset...” https://t.co/WnAEokt5Tu

53. It is astounding how few people have any real, interesting ambition. “Make a lot of money” by itself does not count

“Arnold. You’re a very impressive bodybuilder. But what’s this talk about movies? Your accent is terrible! Nobody will understand- oh, ok. You’re a film star. Well done. Wait, you want to be WHAT?” https://t.co/vqQ1MqhVCw

@visakanv for me there was a kind of egoic clinging to my first identity (mathematician) and i had to experience ~ego death to be able to let it go enough to do something else. this was terrifying and it took years and i didn't do it very cleanly. "fixed mindset" doesn't quite capture it

@visakanv it's not exactly that i didn't think i was capable of anything else, but more that in order to do something else i had to become a stranger to myself, and a certain vision of what i thought my future looked like had to die

@visakanv actually the best description i've ever seen of this dynamic is in this blog post by @meditationstuff where he talks about "acquiring a linear ratchet" but it's not the easiest reading: https://t.co/unNuCJG3AN
