We think we’re relaxing when we scroll Twitter. But we’re not. We’re fake-relaxing. Twitter, YouTube, Insta . . . all, fake-relaxing. Or at least: they’re stunningly inefficient ways of relaxing. 1/n

Say you’re working. You want a break. How long does it take? To feel like you want to work again? 🤔 You go on YouTube . . . 2 hours later, you maybe, finally, feel satiated, you want to stop and go back and work again. 2/n

Compare with: Sitting in silence, doing nothing . . . In 15 minutes, your brain will be screaming, “HEYY let’s go work again!!” 15 minutes. It’s not a trick. 👉 That’s the beauty of true relaxing. We almost never allow ourselves to do it. 3/n

Working and relaxing is like yin and yang ☯️ When do you crash the hardest? When you’ve had the most coffee ☕️☕️😫. Have too much of one . . . and the other asserts itself. Yin has a way of asserting itself. --- But so does yang. 4/4

If you’re too tired to work, you’re too tired to recreate. If you’re too impatient to reexperience, you’re too impatient to experience really. https://t.co/zSVXKBY6yi

Don’t suppress the urge to recreate; simlpy give its own space and attention right there, on the spot (till you don’t want to anymore). https://t.co/dwxVJRIzIB

@selentelechia I found *intentionally recreating* (sitting down to Twitter/YouTube etc with a premeditated intent and full attention) feels sooo good. Don’t want to cut that off, and I’m not gonna get it as long as I’m reflexively recreating.
