A paradox of sorts is that the most vocal people tend to speak on behalf of others, but they’re rarely representative- since most people aren’t that vocal. It’s like a verbal/textual equivalent of the fashion model problem. Most people don’t look like fashion models
yup that’s the other half of the story- people start modifying our utterances and behaviors etc in reference to whoever or whatever is in the spotlight. I regularly encounter people who respond negatively to the idea of “echo chambers” or “filter bubbles” - but if you don’t construct your own then you end up living in one that’s constructed for you, by forces that are very unlikely to care about your interests
