The fact that I'm noticing this in myself is making me even more optimistic about the idea that conspicuous consumption might be able to be replaced by proud patronage or something like that. And it's more fun to have money flow to indie creators than to large corps.
Patreon tends to be relatively small-scale, although cool for its subscription capacity & distributed job security for creators (not just at whims of one big patron). If you have a spare $1-10k you want to flaunt, maybe commission some art, or music, or something instead?
