The biggest problem around identity is not the politics, it's the psychology. People invent these categories that just completely fail to make the right distinctions and then just rebuild their entire entire psyche around treating those categories as central to their identity.

(Mental health problems and different subjective experiences of the world are real and important and totally reasonable to make central features of your concept. The fake words people use to put those into boxes are not.)
