I sometimes joke that if you wanna play like hendrix you gotta dress like hendrix it's not really a joke; aesthetic resonance is real. doesn't really matter where you start- but if it's legit, it touches everything you do https://t.co/7a5KYLA5HO

@dolphinstreet this is how he chilled his aesthetic was his way of being; it ran all the way through https://t.co/HdVu51jVit

if someone claims to be the second coming of steve jobs, the first question I ask is, how do they talk to their families about household appliances? people focus too much on the "great" part of "insanely great" obsession runs all the way through https://t.co/gChm2QkXcM https://t.co/s4l7wbn8oo

if someone claims to be the second coming of lee kuan yew, my question is, how do they talk about how they make decisions in their personal life? aesthetics are about values, powerful values run all the way through your own heart and way of being https://t.co/YQW8ReIDwe https://t.co/KOdaZb4fiM

I personally believe that each person has within them an entire universe of aesthetics that's rich, dense & ripe for exploring. one of life's grand adventures is: you get to build out the extended cinematic universe of yourself. search your past for clues https://t.co/6vLG7ys4wO

I have conversations with and comment on past selves in the marginalia of my books - so if you borrow my books you don’t just get to read the books, but my comments, and my arguments with myself, meta-comments... I am Extremely Online even when I am offline https://t.co/0kuyKhiXi5

nobody can move as quickly, confidently and resolutely as the people who are grounded in a deep understanding of + pursuit of their own aesthetic. these artists look like magicians to people who aren't in tune with themselves https://t.co/bc3Mc9xX8t

a common mistake beginners make is to imitate the superficial frills and flourishes of their heroes. while all learning starts with imitation, the goal IMO should be to seek out the *differences* between you and your heroes. to find and inhabit the space that is uniquely yours https://t.co/xCkVUcnksz

just for fun – this is one developing thread in the broader web of my fashion aesthetic. aesthetics are a lot more than just what you wear, but IMO you can't just throw on an entire costume over night. I find that I have to build it up brick by brick and reorient as I go https://t.co/h4v2X3XcR2

this is a nice place to segue to my ideas about talismans everything has story potential you can imbue any object with story and meaning, then use those objects to tell *your* story when you frame it like this, life is just *drenched* with meaning https://t.co/EckCVBR5WU

I can’t believe I’m about to say this but: you have to periodically recharge your talismans with fresh thoughts and energy or they’ll “decay” https://t.co/a4yJhqFipo

Everyday is a new opportunity to assign value to things, to decide what is important, what is beautiful, what is good, what is deserving. In this regard you are truly the Monarch of your life, first of your name, bla bla https://t.co/YGXHATd5Ke

"O, fair enough, but I wish other people thought of me as a king!" You have to earn your own respect before you earn the respect of anybody else. (Grifters might *seem* to break this rule by courting fools, but that hellish choice is its own punishment) https://t.co/VFJjVFlyrx

the love isn't a blind, thoughtless, blanket love the love is a careful, considered, nuanced love it's the love of having counted the characters it's the love of rolling each and every word around in your mouth it's the love that KNOWS, that when it's GOOD, it's GOOD

"O,,, but I do not respect myself" And you want to be king??? fuck outta here!! 😂😂😂 srsly though; earning your own respect is one of the most important quests on this journey. nobody else can do this for you; you have to introspect and journal and be honest with yourself

@visakanv so this is funny because i realised a thing yesterday about work that’s just this insight in drag https://t.co/Q17BcVrUYS

the thing i couldn’t tolerate is if it felt like no one agreed immediately & then i felt dumb & not-with-the-group it’s like the game i was trying to play is “predict what would get accepted & go with the flow” instead of just.. say whatever i really think? and let it be true

@visakanv Your thread has been helpful in shaping my understanding of the role of art in the world. In this context, art is kind of like guided examples of how to live one's life, be oneself, and take on one's own mission.

@emadabdulrahim @jorilallo YESSSSS. As far as I'm concerned every microwave without a dial is as absurd as having to program the temperature into your faucet using digital buttons every time you want water. The design trend against knobs towards buttons is one of the worst basic UX fails of all time.
