One of my “it’s counter-intuitive but explains a lot” ideas is that not many people *actually* care very much about having lots of sex. A much stronger drive IMO is the drive for connection, status, belonging. You don’t want the sex nearly as much as what you think the sex means

"... we spend an inordinate amount of time and energy thinking about sex, longing for it, imagining it, singing, talking and writing about it, while actually doing it so very rarely (compared to bonobos)" https://t.co/71vSsontGb

think porn is a fun career because you get to fuck all day? well, https://t.co/KjShUdSrft

@visakanv @mechanical_monk From my limited vantage point, my guess would have been it's mostly true for people who haven't gotten sufficient validation. People who believe themselves to not be fuckable or at least need a reminder (if the case, I guess this answers my question about why status difference)

@visakanv Oh man, I've been thinking about this a lot lately. "More" probably depends on the person, but I think it generalizes that these are surprisingly different desires, compared to how similar they look. (And "more" might be true in >50%, even >90% of cases)

@visakanv I think I internalized a belief that I'm not particularly sexy and never will be, so I actually prefer people who are just very horny to those who cooly inform me that I'm hot. But this certainly seems true of many people, both women and men.
