In order to run it, install an extension like GreaseMonkey (Firefox) or TamperMonkey (Chrome/Brave/etc) and then import this into it.

Note that by default it removes the sidebar when you're on a permalink as well, so that you're not distracted by notifications there either. I was already doing this with a userstyle, but I added it to the script for convenience. You can comment it out if you don't like that.
