A version of twitter (or alt UI for twitter) that's actually optimized for having dense rhizomatic conversations. I have been collecting design thoughts (tagged #TwitterReplacement) for this for over a year; message me if you're planning to try making it! https://t.co/oY1HDs2HNE

🧵🧵Meta-thread For over a year I've been thinking & modelling about "what would twitter be like if it were actually optimized for conversation?" Mostly I've been tagging my thoughts #TwitterReplacement but haven't been collecting them anywhere. (A lot is still in workflowy too)

@reasonisfun just tweeted about a micro-crowdfunding idea💡 (inspired by something I had tweeted! This is why twitter is so great. And her tweet inspired this very thread about #ThingsIWantToExist) https://t.co/cG8oTj7AhT

10× better podcast apps. This thread has a great list of desiderata: https://t.co/TNWw66DxgM

Ugh, and talking about podcast apps is prompting me to note that our apps for digital reading also need major attention. Such core tasks with so little innovation! What are all of these tech companies DOING? So just made this epic thread: https://t.co/DL8CGMYQc6

#ThingsIwantToExist: better ebook readers. Hell, a better app for reading digital text altogether—when I shift from "ebook reader" to "interactive reading" I find myself thinking current best thing might almost be "paste into gdocs" and that's nuts.

An integrated multi-structure content editor. https://t.co/9KHLWvzvtg

@context_ing @procrastiwork @visakanv @Conaw @micahtredding @andy_matuschak @Azeirah What I really want to have is a few really good editors for: - trees (workflowy!) - tables (airtable!) - prose (google docs!) - threads (twitter!) - ?? PLUS the ability to embed any of these anywhere within any of the others. Boom. #ThingsIWantToExist

Better systems for facilitating people working on these things! Could be micro-grants, micro-crowdfunding, DAOs... https://t.co/pjUpjGm2SS

Phone call to your future self: (this could be built by one dev in a day with @twilio probably) https://t.co/YumBxcjriF

@twilio Very relatedly but also different: An app to make it easy to wake up to a reflection from the night before, as a way to create more continuity between going to bed and waking up. https://t.co/Ah72NMWu55

@twilio Audio for meaning+exercise. I've wanted this sort of thing for at least 5 years. Lots of variations beyond podcast+yoga, which I comment on the original thread because that's how this meta-thread works! https://t.co/gdkKlqrBFt

#ThingIWantToExist: App that takes the audio from minimalist yoga routines and inserts it into a podcast / recording of your choice. So you'd start with, say, an hour-long podcast, and end up listening to it in like 1:10 while also being guided through a yoga sequence.

I think there's a huge market for this, and it'd be very easy to have a free version & a pro version (more tracks, more collaborators, higher res, export, effects, livestreaming, etc) Not easy to build, technically though. https://t.co/EV700ao2da

💡🤯 idea: virtual collaborative loop machine 🎶🔄 This would allow people to create music together remotely, without the latency issue. Your input gets time-sync'd locally, and others only hear it once it's fully uploaded. I think this would be 🔥, esp now but also after covid

This Music-Streaming Services one has been building for awhile, at least a few months. Had something half-drafted in roam and was inspired by a recent @patio11 tweet to write it up in full for Twitter. Tons of gorgeous stuff here. https://t.co/moYzgxZOFP

Design Rant time! Today: audio streaming services. Why are they all the same old boring things and stuck in the same old metaphors of "playlists" and "radio"? Virtual ports of old music-library managers. Lots of improvements to be made—in particular, tags! #ThingsIWantToExist https://t.co/ApRtMLMRu8

I think this would jive well with functionality that encourages you to write down restaurant or park recommendations for places you're not in, and get reminded of them when you go, which is something I've wanted for a decade. https://t.co/55D21vPVQm

jfc my kingdom for https://t.co/SluohSkNxB

Oh I didn't thread this one - News Portal / News Time Machine https://t.co/81I72Fuo6b

#ThingsIWantToExist - News Portal / News Time Machine basically a digital equivalent of looking through a pile of old newspapers (which, come to think of it, is an experience I often had, living at a house where we used such as liners for the compost bins! very fascinating) https://t.co/v56xmtVMgs

something to facilitate real-time calls between you and your friends, in the perfect opportune moments, without scheduling https://t.co/qc3rzp1Sro

I am sad by how hard/rigid scheduling seems to be, particularly for groups but even 1-on-1. I want something like an app that tracks everyone's availability & mood *in real-time* and proposes "now would be a great time for you 4 to jump on this call!" #ThingsIWantToExist https://t.co/4mDKUncUSm

Here's a thread of single tweets about various things that would be great if they existed. Very similar mood 💞 https://t.co/FdVjaAxofv

this has been on my radar for awhile; finally wrote up a thread about it https://t.co/EsgbXHxYMN

There's huge room out there for developing an app for readily having conversations with yourself. Lots of people have tried hacking systems together with pen & paper or elsewhere. Sometimes I just do a doc/email with normal text + italics... #ThingsIWantToExist https://t.co/DyS43weh7T

Meta: a service for helping turn #ThingsIWantToExist into things that exist! https://t.co/X27BlUAQ1T

a site to show the various other products or ideas that got remixed into the products you love https://t.co/knfSRhwott

idea: a website showing remix-sources for products crowdsource initial suggestions (like https://t.co/sYPHZEp6Iv) then get official creator-provided write-ups as well @remixeverything have you heard of anything like this? https://t.co/OzYWVRX3o6

an app that lets neighbors coordinate when they're going to be out so that they can enjoy loud music without bothering each other too much https://t.co/gnHkgCuB19

I would pay a lot of money to have an app that told me when my downstairs neighbors were out so that I could blast music loudly at those times. I LOVE the experience of working with loud music, AND I don't want to cause other people annoyance, and this is an information problem!
