Less than $900 for a ruggedized solar power capable (12 or 24 battery voltage) with a cellular uplink. Combine with a decent camera + $70 VPU and you can even do edge detection of faces to upload to a remote system for offline processing (supports AWS greengrass). Having fun yet?

If I wanted that, I'd likely just install a coral board https://t.co/qohe0sl1ZE instead of going with Movidius, but mostly because I think it more compatible with maker ethos.

What's that? You're worried about schmoo on your lens? Here's a guy making an open source de-schmooing device to keep your go-pro lens clear so you don't have to spend $11k on a fancy high end camera add-on.https://t.co/BDjdg1JOm2

i'm going to buy a couple of these to see if I can stick a camera in one. They're so cheap and ubiquitous that i'm finding knockoffs at the local discount store for < $4 each.https://t.co/oA15EuskfT

Budgeting things is hard. I turns out I won't be able to try that out for a few months. Still got a couple more things I need to spend money on to ensure my food is stable before I can squeeze my rocks enough to afford small parts for projects like that.

I can hot-wire it to just go up into the air slowly. The slight 'spinning' of the body will slowly pan the camera around so I can get a 360 view. The beauty of that helicopter design is when the battery dies /cuts power, it should auto-rotate back down to the ground semi-safely.

Setting the bar low, I see."have a range of more than 12,000 nautical miles, can fly at strikingly high altitudes of 60,000 feet, and can stay aloft for 34 hours straight. [...] at times cost the US more than $220 million to manufacture and equip."https://t.co/XdhD0cfyak

I swear I just want to make a swarm of robot bees.https://t.co/Z1fYrjPOuS

By my estimate I should be able to get about ~1900 nautical miles, so that's no where close to the 12k they're getting. But I'm also assuming this is entirely thru a balloon and freefall, not assisted with motors or extra battery/propulsion.https://t.co/YElBfZ6nqn

I'm also assuming that 2000 feet hang-gliding is the same as 110k feet free-fall. I suspect if I can get a high-altitude slipstream effect similar to what moths do to travel over the ocean.Time to look up how to license long distance UAV for hobby purposes.

If I can get one of these into 110k feet, theoretically that's 2.8 miles of unpowered glide https://t.co/LttdB9nrG6

I wonder what will happen when all of the abandoned malls Amazon has been buying up are turned into weapons manufacturing plants? I have this design in my notes too.https://t.co/q6Eh5xB7Ti

One of my favorite paper air plane designs https://t.co/T99dQFxVTE

Did you see how that amazon design has all the blades slightly ajar from each other? That creates dynamic stability. I think a similar arrangement is patented? But it also showed up in a kickstarter: https://t.co/CqE2ioPuCZ

You'll note that kickstarter was from "Helen Greiner"Same person I think: https://t.co/OUVR2L7V83Very cool design - can even fly with one blade missing.

Personally I'm a fan of the omnicopter design, second only to a single prop thrust vectoring system (for mechanical simplicity) https://t.co/ZwPWr4riIC

I also had the idea of angling the prop blades in a hex copter after seeing a precursor to this design from 2013: https://t.co/VgNWZfEKcWI actually modded my flexbot back in 2014 to a similar structure as that CyPhy one thanks to it being 3d printed.

I never could figure out control for sideways flight w/out rolling, but I knew it was possible. Was excited when CyPhy proved it out.At time, my intent was to aim a camera (or a kinect) directly down to map lawn geometry and manage a fleet of lawnmowers.https://t.co/zjF8v4lasv

This looks fun.https://t.co/SvKmVzDT3E

'lawn mowing'https://t.co/qJILvwG94S

All sorts of strange things around space lasers being normalized. I think it's anxiety over satellite surveillance. I wonder if we're going to see balloons being shot out of sky using lasers. It's hard to get a drone up high enough to shoot them down.https://t.co/UvolIfwFEm

I found an open source optical flow hardware that samples at 250hz.https://t.co/tNa5CD7xBJSeems they've gone thru a couple revisions and are now a full suite of control software https://t.co/HQaKMDRbM5Compat with ROS and Dronekit! Nice.

I saw this 100% lego drone (sans control chip) last month. Did a good job showing how to tune blade speeds.https://t.co/4y676Su1h8It's a big step! Previously I've seen ones that use non-lego parts as part of the drive train and propeller system. https://t.co/IV6iu5nziT

That inertialsense thing looks pretty neat. Seems it's used in lawn mowers! This is actually the same stack I would go with myself, even the Jetson.https://t.co/tbawlfmpsU

I've decided that modeling thrust-vectoring off of bees is a bad idea. Here's a video about how bees just collide with everything.https://t.co/23PwWCSBIM If a rocket does this, it explodes. https://t.co/VWIxc2iqI0
