When I was ~21, I put in a ton of effort into applying for a job as a social media manager. I agonized over every detail of the application for hours, ran it by multiple friends. I don’t think I got any reply, ever. I double-checked everything. I think I sent a follow up. Nothing

I now have more twitter followers than both their twitter and FB combined, so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Still. A job application is such an intimate thing, IMO. If you see a kid make an effort, talk to them. You can earn their loyalty for life even if you don’t actually hire them

One thing I really liked about @referralcandy was how much the whole company cared about hiring. Doesn’t matter if you were applying to be an engineer or a marketer, the whole company wanted to make sure you had a great experience hanging out with us. I’m very proud of that still

In the early days, whenever anybody left the company, @dineshraju would lead the team in celebrating their contributions. It made for a nourishing work environment: you knew your own departure would be dignified. Took me a while to learn that this isn’t as common as it should be
