Laphroaig is a whisky (apparently you're not supposed to use the 'e', even though the word is prettier with it) that has some emotional significance for me. I'm not a snob or anything, but it was the first 'good' whisky I had as an adult, in my office with colleagues after work https://t.co/4Iw7dCPbdt

Where do we start? How about "Scottish whisky"? For starters, turns out there are over a HUNDRED whisky distilleries in Scotland. Wow. I have also tried Macallan, Glenmorangie, Glenlivet, Lagavulin, Bowmore... that's less that 5% of all the whiskies. Wild. Why so much whisky? 🥃 https://t.co/yCJmB2Gm9t

I left out Glenfiddich, which is usually the other whisky I regularly by other than Laphroaig. (I think I like this one because @csjdamien does...?) And... looks like it's an 8 hour drive between their distilleries! Whoa. https://t.co/CmKtlBIfBR

You don't get to call your drink "scotch whisky" unless you make it according to Scottish regulations. This is serious business. Here is the legal definition of "Scotch Whisky". It has to be made at a Scottish distillery from water and malted barley https://t.co/IdJtsVMOkW https://t.co/53LWldwHho

The Scotch Whisky Association must be a quite an interesting organization. Here's their take on Brexit. LOL at their 404 page. Their CEO Karen Betts used to be the British ambassador to Morocco & was a lawyer in HK before that. She has to always be photographed holding a scotch😂 https://t.co/MuSfB4CL8P

"Karen Betts runs the 106-year-old Scotch Whisky Association, championing a sector that accounted for £4.4bn of exports in 2017." - Scotch whisky takes a long time to make, so long-term planning is in the product DNA Curious to know more about the international-market-building https://t.co/DDZwwgvDqq

20 million casks of scotch whisky maturing at the moment. That's like... billions of bottles (there are different cask sizes though so I'm not sure precisely how many. 100-400 bottles per cask...?) https://t.co/mpE703UUrz

So I think the interesting question to ask is, how did one particular form of alcohol (Scotch whisky) become so popular worldwide? Whisk(e)y specialist Chad Ralston has some answers, but I feel like I need a broader context still... https://t.co/nv01aY1ME4 https://t.co/CXqHjWt2mp
