I once spent ~3 weeks in 2013 researching a blogpost about Oreo and Nutella and I still think about it from time to time. I started getting into it by analyzing their marketing – Oreo has great marketing, while Nutella's success seemed to be almost in spite of its meh marketing https://t.co/21kmp23YCa

Nutella is made by Ferrero, the Italian company that also makes Kinder Bueno, Kinder Surprise & Ferrero Rocher. Ferrero is a very secretive company– Michele Ferrero (son of Pietro Ferrero, the founder) was the richest man in Italy ($20B), yet you don't really hear much the family https://t.co/XjTTOsMjiw

Ferrero also invented Tic-Tacs! Did you know this?? 45% of the world's Tic Tacs are made in a Ferrero factory in Cork, Ireland. It makes 36 Tic-Tacs a second. https://t.co/v3ippDQ2as

Ferrero markets Nutella as breakfast food Nutella addicts have a slightly different perspective 6 years later I *still* can't decide if this is negligence, indifference, or *genius* I'm leaning towards genius https://t.co/LneWieZItI

re: globalization 1. Italy-made Nutella consumes 25% of the world's hazelnuts (h/t @DellAnnaLuca) 2. ~75% of the world's hazelnuts are grown in Turkey 3. France is obsessed with Nutella (25% global production) 4. Some Turkish hazelnut farmers probably got very rich from 3 https://t.co/M24xKtLjiX

Looks like hazelnut picking is work done by Turkish women and girls and... there's a child labor story here :-( and it makes sense, right? "Skip school and go pick hazelnuts" must be a rational decision when hazelnuts are in such demand https://t.co/7Y1INM6R4q https://t.co/dLn20AYmDy

btw if you ever go to Thailand you gotta have the nutella banana pancakes, it's next level. Add a couple of strawberries for a full-bodied mouthgasm https://t.co/Dse84b3kSH
