If your dreams don't include needing to learn how expensive it is to get a train cart full of steel shipped to your eventual location, I might suggest thinking bigger.

I learned the cost to transport a train car of steel back in 2013. In the process I sparked an interest in nature of shipping networks and the evolution of the way society built things. This boat? Bought by a railway Barron, and shipped inland on rails.https://t.co/c0dSuR3ccx

Houses we curate in our mind - thoughts we think - are built for the environment they are meant to constrain. Mind palaces of the absurd. https://t.co/y8m9M12lI6

Shelburn museum was founded in part by an association with Vanderbilt family - a railroad and shipping empire. The main curator & driving force behind the museum was the daughter of {president of the American Sugar Refining Company}. She collected dolls.https://t.co/Q3LkbE6q0l

More than dolls, she collected memories. Electra Havemeyer Webb was a driving force behind preserving amercian history at a time before "Americans had yet to understand that their heritage was interesting and worthy of preservation." https://t.co/6iqtMhEA54

She endeavored "to assemble encyclopedic and irreplaceable collections of American material culture." and is likely one of the reasons why we know so much about our history. How many american contemporaries has she helped to inspire?https://t.co/ALsSfkOme8

Studying Darwin's early childhood and collegiate career, you quickly see how Museums influenced his early habits of collecting and identifying species of plants. A cultural interest in fossils and working in museums influenced how he was able to reach conclusions that he made.

A more real world example of this effect happening due to networks - consider Mary Anning's story https://t.co/ywhENYHI2U and how her discoveries https://t.co/qLWWXciZ4S filtered up thru into Charles Darwin's theories of evolution. https://t.co/LcIjjPqFVL

Do you ever study something to the point that you end up going all the way back to greek foundations, and promptly realize that most of knowledge we have from the time is lost to the event horizon of the void?

Pay attention to weak signals in aggregate. These are voices of those who are overlooked & crying for change, before the system breaks them.
