not my business to tell other people how to live their lives but if you're curious: I feel like lots of people mis-distribute their seriousness too serious about things you don't have to be serious about not at all serious about things you *ought* to be serious about šŸ˜‚šŸ¤”

what should people be serious about? - relationships. who do you want around your deathbed? - health. don't have to be obsessive, but surely you wanna be nimble & mobile as you age - minimize regret. don't die wishing you lived differently - being independent / useful https://t.co/Y3y9Cshfj0

once you have like this tiny handful of things taken care of – you're healthy, know how to make friends and have great relationships, have a skillset you can use to pay the bills, be useful, have fun, be happy, everything else becomes much easier to deal with, even laugh about

the question/problem of injustice is a major one to be considered, if you choose to consider it, and want to do something about it (I actually personally don't mind if you decide you don't want to have anything to do with it. whatever, live your life)

personally I think it's worth trying to make an effort to correct injustice, even though it's a losing battle, & you'll never be able to be rid of it in your lifetime. you'll meet good people in the process, who are IMO the best reason to at least make an effort to try to be good

but honestly,,, you don't need to like make a whole thing about it if you take care of yourself, if you're happy, healthy, well-adjusted, independent, take care of your own problems, regulate your own emotions, manage your own psychology, you're already doing everyone a favor

the dumbest thing to be serious about is IMO "the current news cycle", without being clear about your desired outcomes if you don't have a clear sense of what you want, then you are participating in sound and fury signifying nothing https://t.co/fsmvsXNFqz

How long have we spent in the past ~5 years in passionate arguments that ultimately amounted to nothing? What could've we done w that time?

the wildest thing to me is there are people who use the sound and fury as a distraction from their personal problems (broke, unhealthy, economically not useful, weak relationships, no friends) sinister part of me thinks, you might as well pick up a drug habit; might be more fun

whenever I talk to people in private, I hear about all sorts of pains and traumas and dramas – shitty families, shitty relationships, shitty jobs, shitty debt, all sorts of mess and chaos. seldom hear much about this online. I believe that people redirect their anger &frustration

I don't personally care much for simplistic stop-gap solutions like "oh, go on a social media fast", "detox", "disengage", yadda yadda. I mean, you can try it out to see how it changes things for you. Might help, maybe. But I wouldn't bet on it. Because...

the real issue, really, IMO, is that people aren't clear with themselves about what they really want. You don't have to want what I want. (That would be boring.) You have to decide what YOU want. Otherwise it will be decided for you. Hoping to go deep on this in @introspectvv

but I think I've been procrastinating on it because I'm not sure anybody even needs to read a damn book about it šŸ˜‚ just ask yourself what you want,,, and have some honest, thoughtful conversations with yourself about it then chase down the implications and act accordingly

yup. nice eg of what I mean by "people are serious about all the wrong things" this is a damning fact that leads me back to the conclusion that school is mostly-really a sort of prison designed to churn out benign zombies rather than flourishing humans https://t.co/nUhlsSlHwC

things worth being serious about: working with great people, marrying a great spouse, both of which imo are a consequence of being a nourishing presence + making great friends https://t.co/b1uM3skmok

working with great people is a *ridiculous* privilege; the disparity between "great work environment" and "ok i guess" and "I hate these people" is tremendous. working with great people and hearing horror stories from friends feels like you're cheating at life

The system generally prefers it if you were reducible to simple domesticated zombie patterns. Heavy debts can be a psychic prison sentence https://t.co/LchFQwaGd9

Finite and Infinite Games has a great riff on seriousness vs play https://t.co/80HvLfQSHQ

To be playful is not to be trivial or frivolous, or to act as though nothing of consequence will happen. Rather - when we are playful, we relate to each other as free persons - and the relationship is open to surprise. Seriousness = pressing for a specific conclusion. https://t.co/OAyhqyy4Yh
