Somehow only just realized I could actually use my twitter to introduce people to Singaporean music!!! Being a part of the SG music scene in the late 2000s was a *huge* part of my identity โ I'm writing a novel about it. Yes โ I'm one of those "music saved my life" guys

This is Electrico's Love In The New Wave, from their 2006 album Hip City I'm friends with all of them on FB ๐ค I don't know why I just said that. ๐ ย OK, I do know why. ๐ When I was 16, I thought they were cool as hell, accomplished, and out of my league https://t.co/ENSywLhM3R https://t.co/fDMkL4xEgp

And this is me covering another one of their songs, Only Where I'm Going, in my parent's office in 2012 with a crappy webcam. Whenever I'm feeling lonely, isolated, etc, I tend to go back to SG music โ I have strong memories of it, and it felt so *personal* and intimate https://t.co/jk7rDdPbQO

This was Ronin, who were the 1st of guys I met who Truly Did Not Give A Fuck. I'm friends with all of them too ๐ Sean's lead playing was really expressive, Derryn was just cool af with his Rickenbacker, and Levan gave me a model for "how to live when you're larger than life" https://t.co/gqdUPNYC6F

I kinda idolized Levan as a teenager, which probably wasn't good for either of us. But we're good friends now still, and very open with each other about our feelings and experiences. Getting a sense of him is a pretty good proxy for getting a sense of me https://t.co/GQEW36EpN0 https://t.co/nCciofCkAL

this was probably the highlight of my band scene life. i remember going onstage and there were so many people and so many lights I felt like throwing up. it's been over 10 years now, wow https://t.co/UNN7AMCn0q

๐ this was a lot of fun https://t.co/CqdRxcqGyZ

Audiocean is a band I'm referencing a lot when I'm writing my novel โ I'm childhood friends with the singer, and I love how charismatic and fun she's always been. IMO she was a real diamond in the rough (She also looks a *lot* like my wife ๐ My wife is like her grumpy twin) https://t.co/fnRYUV3iCR

The Great Spy Experiment was a band made up entirely of schoolteachers! When they burst onto the scene they seemed to just 'appear' out of the blue (to me, at least) with a very well-put-together sound and aesthetic all at once, which was wild. They were polished and professional https://t.co/rSB9Gdwwuu

This band M1LDL1FE is much more recent (2017 video) โ definitely getting a sense that the scene today is less scrappy โ people have a lot more domain knowledge about sound engineering, videography and so on. It's very heartening to witness. https://t.co/4JDg69LxyT

OH! This cover of Wonderwall by Sezairi and Shun is my *favorite* cover of Wonderwall. Like, ever. https://t.co/24x5cJM29E

Really like this song by Allura, called Closure. (Inch is now a solo artist!) Lots of Singaporean bands tend to be formed when members are around age 17-19, and many of them start to fall apart when guys have to do their NS (military, or police, or civil) https://t.co/NZ8J7ipDtR

Caracal in 2007! This band has grown and changed a lot over the years https://t.co/H3FmgdhT2h
