This is a useful word to use when thinking about “what is the right thing to do” in social contexts. It’s obviously not objective, but never completely subjective either. It depends on the context, ie it’s intersubjective https://t.co/HYJiHqZMYQ
It’s often frustrating when people treat intersubjective matters as more objective (“I can’t do that, because society”) or subjective (“I can do whatever I want, fuck society”) than they actually are (“Actually are” is itself a somewhat intersubjective declaration 🤔)
The simple idea that there’s something in between is so useful. So many people don’t even acknowledge this. Many think “if I don’t get to change things then that means there are rules everyone *must* follow,” or “if it isn’t objective then it must be completely arbitrary”
If it didn’t sound so pretentious, “people who appreciate the intersubjectivity of things” is actually a great filter to find great company. These are people who aren’t too quick to make up their minds, yet aren’t so uncertain as to not have any opinions of their own. I love them
