finding myself thinking about this in the context of project management, and project redesign. I've occasionally managed to modify my own behavior by reconceptualizing the model that i'm operating in. incentive... flow? alignment? redirection? 🤔 clarification, I think. https://t.co/6mqDo7DF6j

a well-designed, simple project takes vague, murky incentives and makes them clear and responsive (eg progress on a meter, with a reward at the end of it) this is what good games do, too. you know what you're working towards, you can often literally see it

I wanted to be a good writer, but made little progress. Set a goal to write a million words. 700k words later, I’m a discernibly better writer I wanted to be fit, but made little progress. Set a goal of doing 1000 total pullups. 50 pullups later, I’m discernibly fitter 🤔🤔🤔

I’m only about 70 pullups in and I can see/feel a difference https://t.co/Y7t16EKGzI

Just crossed 100 pullups! Here’s pullups 12-15, from Jan 2. was still struggling to do three, and couldn’t seem to help doing the weird kicking thing https://t.co/NQS6iVsau9

And here’s pullups 96-101! Up to 6 reps now, and less kicking, though form still isn’t as smooth as I’d like 899 more to go 🤓 looking forward to crossing 10 in a set, then 15 https://t.co/F9ngT1pU1s

The pain of progress https://t.co/Ff3xk9tM2M

125/1000. Interesting thing about trying to do a lot of a thing is to notice where the bottlenecks are. The primary muscles used in a pullup are the lats and biceps, but as I'm sitting here now, it's my abs that are most sore. My grip is also suffering, and limiting me atm https://t.co/yJ4fq78trZ

At 144/1000 and I need to take a day or two off, or I’m going to break the skin and have to take several days off https://t.co/vi8qI2IBpe

After a couple of days off, I just managed a personal best of 7 pullups in 1 set, which I don’t think I’ve done in over a decade- when I was like 20kg lighter. Feels good! [Pullups 145-151 out of 1000] https://t.co/0JGxfv0yZP

just hit 200 pullups, you can see the form is getting smoother i'm not specifically trying to do anything different, I simply trust that the form will get better by itself [these were pullups 190-194] loosely hoping to do 300 in February, ie have done 500 total by March https://t.co/N05iFwN18h

Just hit 250, ie 1/4 done This is my second set of the day and I’ve been getting sore over the past few days so gonna take a couple of days off maybe Funnily, my glutes are slightly sore too. Would not have guessed that would happen. Apparently it’s from having to “stabilize” https://t.co/v9pk4TlqTC

Calluses update I’ve just started to read a little more into the mechanics of doing good pullups. An interesting piece of advice I found was to focus on your shoulders (activates lats), not your elbows (activates biceps). Seems like good advice, form seems smoother for it https://t.co/gculh2zCMg

Just a quick note that I am now kind of naturally curious about the importance and effects of stretching, as a consequence of all of the above. This is one of the cool things about doing large volumes of anything; you get naturally led to new interests bc of effects of scale

hit 300 [pullups 295-300] going from 6/set to 9/set seems harder than 3 to 6, but I’m trusting in the process. A fit friend commented “6 is the new 5”, which is true. I think the form is getting smoother, but there’s still loads of room for improvement. Looking forward to it https://t.co/XmKhNxlKfw

New personal best of 8 reps in 1 set [pullups 372-380] https://t.co/OFLM75rcCt

[396-400] I hesitated posting this one because I was sick for about a week, which I think set me back - I’m visibly skinnier and I feel weaker than I did two or three weeks ago, and it shows. But that’s life I guess. A milestone is a milestone regardless. 400 down, 600 to go https://t.co/k5Y2zCys3t

[497–500] Fell off the wagon for 2 months (was travelling, then had to focus on cardio for an army fitness test, then just got plain lazy), so my form is kinda meh, my reps per set are kinda meh, but regardless. 500 down, 500 to go. https://t.co/AMSmT2D9Cj

“Lol Visa, you could just have filmed like, 20 pullups. How do we know that was actually your 500th pullup?” You can count them yourself: https://t.co/W7toz8kNT1 https://t.co/QXRKVxqvZ2

I’ve switched up from doing as many as I can per set to doing as many sets of 3 I can do in a day. Here’s the second set today. Did 5 sets yesterday, will be cool to do 6 today If I keep doing at least 3-5 sets a day I should be done before December [636-638] https://t.co/6WLkM6sU6H

Took longer than I hoped, but done is done: ✅ do 1000 pullups (over 13 months) https://t.co/qfDnr3TwAZ

I’ve stopped counting, now I just have fun. I like going slow. Form keeps getting better without me worrying about it https://t.co/1VncVPUS6p

@visakanv Either your palms are tiny or your fingers are incredibly long comparison ps pls dont dox me twitter thx https://t.co/q23Inw7zRB

@eigenrobot nothing about me is tiny https://t.co/SSzwxk1QFL

@visakanv But it’s not fuzzy: everything they do (whether it’s digitizing books, snapshotting websites, hosting software emulators, investing in libraries) all points at this mission quite clearly. So a mission can be intentionally broad to allow for many entrance points maybe
